Numerical Investigation on a Diffuser-Augmented Horizontal Axis Tidal Stream Turbine with the Entropy Production Theory

An implication of a turbine current is the development wake, reduced speed flow, thus affecting performance an adjoined turbine. The aim this study to examine wake properties offer basic framework for exploration efficient arrangements through OpenFOAM source package and entropy production theory. results indicate that diffuser inlet produces largest rate; however, dissipates quickly after rotor plane. In terms vorticity, Q ?2-criterion are sensitive isosurface thresholds. general, ?-Rortex method proves convenient accurate solution vortex visualization identification. For overall mean structure, velocity profile follows tadpole-shape, whilst deficits above 100% observed around nacelle throat (diffuser) behind tower. concentration maximum turbulent intensities appears at top bottom Owing swirling effect rotor, we proposed recommended values b0 = 10?5 hydrodynamic investigation tidal stream turbines. present findings extend our knowledge on flow disruption due shrouded turbines particularly relevant farm project advisors.
